Note:
In recent years, global society has become increasingly polarized. Camps are forming, extreme forces are gaining power, and division is becoming more and more common. In such a polarized world, my composition " رُوح רוּח " (''Spirit'' in Hebrew and Arabic) seeks to create an experience of equality and connection. The work attempts to give its performers the opportunity to be equal to one another, forming a "group of equals" who together create a musical phenomenon where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The composition follows a sense of healing and repair, mending pains between people through music and collective, connecting, and egalitarian performance. I chose the title " رُوح רוּח " (''Ruach'') a word that sounds the same in both Hebrew and Arabic and carries the same meaning: soul, human spirit.
The composition was written for young musicians from the Polyphony Conservatory in Nazareth and the Israeli Conservatory in Tel Aviv. The piece aims to offer these young musicians an experiential opportunity for free playing, freedom of choice, mutual listening, and collegial performance.
